Tax Manager | Gestionnaire en Fiscalité
About this role
Position Summary We're looking for a Tax Manager to own tax for the companies Ventures builds. You'll set each new company up correctly from the start, keep it compliant as it grows, and build the process every future venture follows. The work centres on Canada and the U.S., with filings elsewhere coordinated through local advisors as ventures enter new markets. The role is based in Montreal. AI should be part of how you work.
Use it to research, draft, analyze, and automate. You're responsible for the quality of the result. Values Sound judgment and attention to detail. Taking responsibility and finishing work without being chased. Understanding how a young company makes money and how tax follows it. Curiosity and a willingness to change an approach that isn't working. The honesty to say when a position isn't defensible, including your own.
What you'll do Set up each new venture correctly When Ventures decides to build a company, you'll work out what tax needs to be in place before it takes its first customer: structuring input, registrations, elections, and how its products and pricing are taxed. You'll work with the founder in residence, Valsoft's finance and legal teams, and the VP, Tax on structuring decisions. A venture that starts with the wrong registrations or an untested sales tax position carries that into every invoice.
You'll make those calls early, document the positions you take, and build a setup checklist so each new venture starts faster than the last. Run compliance across the ventures You'll manage Canadian federal and provincial corporate income tax returns and U.S. federal and state income and franchise tax returns for each venture, reviewing what external providers prepare. You'll keep a tax calendar, records, and audit files for every company, and resolve notices and correspondence from the CRA, Revenu Québec, the IRS, and state authorities.
As ventures enter other markets, you'll coordinate corporate and indirect tax filings with local advisors and decide when a venture needs its own registrations there. Own sales and indirect tax You'll own U.S. sales and use tax for the ventures: nexus monitoring, registrations, taxability analysis, filing, and remittance. In Canada you'll manage GST/HST and QST, including registrations, returns, and input tax credit and input tax refund recovery.
