Supervisory Physical Scientist
About this role
Basic Requirement: You qualify for this position if you meet the basic requirement listed below and possess the experience or substitution of education, if applicable, as described below: A. Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. OR B. Combination of education and experience: education equivalent to one of the majors shown in "A" above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
AND Experience: You qualify for the GS-15 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Directing scientific or laboratory operations, including setting priorities, assigning work, resolving complex technical issues, and ensuring final work products meet established quality, accuracy, and reliability standards. Providing senior-level scientific and technical guidance to laboratory personnel, operational staff, leadership, or external stakeholders on complex testing, analysis, quality control, and interpretation of scientific results.
Leading coordination across multiple organizations, partner groups, or external stakeholders to plan, support, and deliver scientific or laboratory services that address high-impact operational, investigative, regulatory, or public safety needs. Developing, justifying, and managing an annual operating budget for a scientific, technical, or laboratory program, including forecasting resource needs, allocating funds, and adjusting resources to meet changing priorities.
Evaluating and implementing new scientific methods, technologies, or procedures to improve laboratory capabilities, operational effectiveness, analytical accuracy, or service delivery.
