About this role

In order to meet the Basic Requirements for an Accountant, GS-0510 position, you must have: A. successfully completed a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree with major study in accounting, or in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting. The 24 hours may include up to 6 hours of credit in business law; OR B.

a combination of education and experience with at least 4 years of experience in accounting, or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge AND includes 24 semester hours in either accounting or auditing courses; OR C. a combination of education and experience with at least 4 years of experience in accounting, or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge AND you must be a Certified Public Accountant or Certified Internal Auditor; OR D.

a combination of education and experience with at least 4 years of experience in accounting, or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge AND have completed the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in accounting or auditing, e.g., 15 semester hours, but that does not fully satisfy the 24-semester-hour requirement, provided that I meet (a) you have successfully worked at the full-performance level in accounting, auditing, or a related field, e.g., valuation engineering or financial institution examining; (b) a panel of at least two higher level professional accountants or auditors have determined that you have demonstrated a good knowledge of accounting and of related and underlying fields that equals in breadth, depth, currency, and level of advancement that which is normally associated with successful completion of the 4-year course of study described in paragraph A; and (c) except for literal nonconformance to the requirement of 24 semester hours in accounting, your education, training, and experience fully meet the specified requirements.

In addition, in order to qualify for an Accountant position at the GS-15 level, you must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: analyzing and reviewing new or proposed revisions to accounting policies and procedures; providing financial operating plan data to program managers for use in decision-making; conducting research into significant accounting issues within an organization; providing advice and resolution to complex accounting situations.
