Working with students at different stages of their journey, you will support aspiring social entrepreneurs to explore challenges, test ideas, and develop ventures, while creating an inclusive environment where all participants can grow through hands-on learning. For students with the right ideas and commitment, you will help create pathways to launch and grow sustainable social ventures and impact-led organisations. UCL is home to thousands of students with the knowledge, creativity, and ambition to tackle some of society's biggest challenges.

As a research-intensive university with a strong culture of innovation, and a Students' Union that is a hub for student development, leadership, and extracurricular activity, we believe students should be supported not only to develop ideas but also to translate promising ideas into action and impact. As Student Social Enterprise Manager, you will lead the Students' Union's work to identify and support the next generation of student social entrepreneurs.

You will create opportunities for students to explore social and environmental challenges, develop entrepreneurial capabilities through practical experience, and build the confidence, networks, and resources needed to take action. A key aspect of the role will be identifying students with the potential to develop impactful ideas into sustainable ventures. Working across hackathons, innovation challenges, volunteering programmes, student communities, academic departments, and wider university activity, you will help uncover promising founders and create pathways that enable them to test, develop and grow their ideas.

Through the development of strong networks, targeted support, and an inclusive programme offer, you will help ensure that students with the passion, commitment, and potential to create social impact can access the opportunities, guidance, and connections needed to progress their ventures. Alongside this, you will create engaging learning experiences that help a wider range of students develop the skills, confidence, and mindset to make a positive difference in society.

Who we think will thrive in this role: We welcome applications from people with a wide range of backgrounds. You may have worked in social enterprise, entrepreneurship, innovation, higher education, business support, community development, or a related field. What matters most is a commitment to social impact and a belief in the potential of Higher Education students to develop ideas, create ventures, and make a meaningful difference.

We think this role will particularly appeal to someone who enjoys working at the intersection of learning, social impact, and entrepreneurship. You will be excited by the opportunity to uncover promising ideas and individuals, helping students move from curiosity and experimentation towards impactful projects, organisations, and ventures. This role is likely to suit someone who thrives in environments that are varied, collaborative, and sometimes ambiguous.

You will enjoy spotting opportunities where others see constraints, building relationships across different communities, and helping students navigate pathways from idea to action within a large and complex institution. Working within a Students' Union and a research-intensive university presents unique opportunities. You will be energised by the challenge of connecting students with ideas, expertise, communities, and resources, recognising that some of the most exciting opportunities for social innovation emerge when different perspectives, disciplines, and networks come together.

You will see the Students' Union not simply as a provider of programmes, but as a platform for identifying potential, creating connections, and helping students turn ambitious ideas for social change into meaningful action.
