Remote
Senior Manager, Payments Risk
About this role
ABOUT THE ROLE Hi, I’m Emily https://www.linkedin.com/in/emily-bartels-85335b6/. I lead Payments and Fintech at Jane. I have spent most of my career in tech helping small businesses grow, get paid, and manage their finances. I am deep in embedded payments and fintech solutions and particularly passionate about health, healthcare, and overall wellness. I joined Jane earlier this year to grow and expand the suite of fintech products and build an exceptional team to help get the work done.
I believe small, independent, personalized healthcare clinics are the way of the future and I’m excited to help the helpers along their journey. Payments is one of the biggest, highest stake areas at Jane, processing billions of dollars annually and scaling fast. It touches how tens of thousands of clinics get paid and how their patients experience paying for care. With that, comes the wild wild west and we need to manage that risk, for the benefit of Jane and its customers.
Trust, clarity, and decisiveness is the backbone of risk management - this role will own the operating system (people, processes, technology) that supports a scalable and balanced risk engine without compromising the exceptional experience Jane strives to provide its customers everyday. WHAT IMPACT WE’RE LOOKING FOR YOU TO MAKE - Merchant risk policy: Onboarding criteria, verification standards, how exceptions get handled, escalation paths, and ongoing merchant monitoring.
- Jane's stated risk appetite: In partnership with Legal, Finance and the VP. - Portfolio losses and the risk reporting pack: Loss rate, approval rate, time-to-decision, dispute, win rate, including support finance in budgeting and forecasting losses. - Transaction monitoring strategy: Transaction rules, risk flags, review process, thresholds, time-to-decision and the false positive rate. - Dispute strategy and win rate: Determine the strategy for improving win-rates for our customers and preventing disputes in the first place.
- The escalation, hold and offboarding decisions: You will have decision-making authority, but know when executive or legal sign-off will be needed. - Know a good merchant from a bad merchant. You have a spidey sense for identifying fraud or if a good merchant has gone bad. - Card network and Stripe compliance obligations. In partnership with Legal and the VP, you willmake recommendations to ensure Jane is protected and customers are aware of their obligations.
