Senior C++ Systems Developer - Live Media
About this role
OFFER When live video travels across networks, every part of the system needs to deliver. At Net Insight, you will work on the software that makes reliable media transport possible — solving demanding engineering problems together with experienced colleagues who enjoy sharing their knowledge. We are looking for a senior C++ developer to join the Nimbra Edge team. This is a hands-on role with substantial technical ownership, where you will improve performance, investigate complex problems and influence the architecture behind a product used in professional media delivery.
Some of the reasons to join Net Insight: Technically challenging work in modern C++23, close to Linux, networking and hardware. The opportunity to influence architecture, implementation and development practices. A small, autonomous team within an established international technology company. Friendly, knowledgeable colleagues who value collaboration and open discussion. Flexible working hours and a workplace that understands life outside work.
THE PRODUCT AND TEAM Nimbra Edge enables the transport of live video across internet and private networks. You will join the team responsible for its dataplane: the C++ software that handles the actual flow of media through the system. The dataplane team consists of four engineers and works closely with seven colleagues developing the cloud parts of the product. Together, they cover a broad technical scope, from cloud software to the systems interacting with the underlying hardware.
It is a friendly, collaborative group where you can discuss a difficult problem, challenge an idea and ask for another perspective. You will have room to work independently, with colleagues who support one another and care about the quality of the result. THE ROLE A central part of your work will be getting more from the available hardware: increasing channel capacity, reducing resource consumption and maintaining predictable performance under demanding conditions.
You will move between architectural decisions and detailed investigation, following a problem through the stack to understand its root cause. That might mean examining memory access and concurrency, analysing network traffic or investigating how Linux scheduling affects latency. Your work will include: Developing and improving performance-critical software in modern C++. Profiling and optimising CPU, memory and network resource usage.
