UK remote
Researcher - Protein Metrology
About this role
The job holder will help develop and validate analytical methods to support NML measurement research programmes for government. They will also assist private sector R&D contract commitments related to protein analysis. They must use advanced instruments and apply various sample preparation techniques as needed. The successful candidate will have experience in protein structural characterisation and, likely quantification by mass spectrometry.
Training as needed will be provided on traceability of measurements to the System of International Units and on the instruments necessary for the delivery of the projects. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates seeking to advance their career in protein mass spectrometry. Key Responsibilities Independent day-to-day planning and delivery of challenging research and development work, ensuring quality, timely delivery, and adherence to budget Lead and manage protein and peptide metrology projects, concentrating on protein structural analysis through mass spectrometry Publication and dissemination of scientific advancements and achievements Provide support in formulating R&D commercial contracts Build and nurture relationships with external partners and collaborators, and extend metrology networks to underpin the UK national measurement system Delivery of ad-hoc research commercial projects and comprehensive reporting of results Knowledge, Experience and Technical Skills PhD (or equivalent experience) in industry, academic, or clinical research Demonstrated expertise in protein structure characterization methods involving mass spectrometry, such as HDX-MS, native MS, IMS, and XL-MS Expertise in the development and optimisation of protein characterisation methods, particularly intact mass analysis and peptide mapping for the assessment of purity, homogeneity and stability Experience on quantification approaches for peptides and proteins is highly desirable Solid knowledge of protein chemistry and related workflows, encompassing peptide and protein sample preparation, treatment, and handling Experience in peptide and protein separation and purification methods, including HPLC, SPE and dialysis Proficiency in mass spectrometry instrumentation, operation and maintenance (e.g.
