Role Overview We are seeking an experienced Observability Engineer to support and enhance the existing monitoring and observability solution for across NEC’s Local Government and Central Government application product. This role will involve a hands-on implementation of the existing standards for new customers and support on-going efforts to improve the monitoring solution.
The candidate will combine technical observability expertise with strong analytical and communication skills, enabling them to deliver meaningful insights and guide the organisation toward a mature and proactive monitoring posture. This an ideal role for someone looking to leverage their experience and drive solutions within the NEC Local Government and Central Government enterprise environment. Main Responsibilities Monitoring Solution Maintenance Configure agents, collectors, and monitoring probes.
Manage upgrades, patches, and platform maintenance. Maintain platform availability and performance. Continuously evaluate alerting thresholds, dashboards, log retention policies, and data quality. 2. Monitoring Design & Implementation Design monitoring solutions for modern technology and application implementation. Refine monitoring standards and onboarding processes. Create application, database and server monitors based on new requirements from products or customers.
Provide inputs to refine monitoring thresholds and improve existing policy standard. Ensure monitoring meets security and compliance requirements. Ensure new implementation integrates with existing ISM tools, reporting dashboards, etc… 3. Service Improvement Drive continual service improvement initiatives. Review monitoring effectiveness. Identify monitoring gaps. Recommend new observability capabilities. 4. Stakeholder Collaboration Engage with application owners, infrastructure teams, NEC product SMEs, and service managers to understand operational needs.
Support knowledge transfer and create documentation to upskill teams on observability usage and maintenance. Qualifications Essential Skills/Experience: Proven experience in an Observability Engineer, Monitoring Specialist, SRE, or Platform Engineer role. Strong knowledge of monitoring, logging, and alerting across Industry standard tools like Splunk, Datadog or similar. Hands‑on experience instrumenting applications with metrics, logs, and traces.
