About this role

We are currently looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join Devoteam Portugal's Nearshore team, working directly with an international client based in the UK within the Tech-led Facilities Management & Infrastructure Solutions sector. In this role, you will focus on building, evolving, and maintaining scalable and high-performance backend applications. Job Description Develop, evolve, and maintain scalable backend applications using Node.js and ExpressJS Design, implement, and maintain robust, secure, and well-documented RESTful APIs Ensure code quality through engineering best practices, data modeling, testing, and performance optimization Collaborate with frontend and cross-functional teams to integrate services and define application architecture Participate actively in agile processes, including sprint planning, estimations, code reviews, and technical discussions Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve complex backend technical issues in a timely manner Stay up to date with modern backend development patterns and technology trends Minimum 5 years of experience in backend development with a strong focus on Node.js Solid expertise in ExpressJS for building scalable backend services Strong proficiency in Relational Databases (SQL) and data modeling Proven experience in designing and integrating RESTful APIs Familiarity with containerization tools like Docker is highly valued Strong knowledge of JavaScript (ES6+), TypeScript, and version control workflows (Git) Solid understanding of backend architecture patterns, security, and clean code standards Strong problem-solving skills, proactive mindset, and attention to detail Fluent in English (written and spoken) for daily international collaboration Devoteam Group works for equal opportunities, promoting its employees based on merit and actively fights against all forms of discrimination.
