Mechanical Engineering Expert
About this role
Mechanical Engineering Expert Pay: $80–$130/hour Location: Global, fully remote Job Type: Contractor (~15 hours per week) Schedule: Flexible—you choose the hours and days you work, including weekends if desired We are looking for a highly skilled Mechanical Engineering Expert to contribute to an AI training project involving engineering design, physical modeling, simulation, technical problem-solving, and Python. The work involves creating, solving, reviewing, and validating engineering tasks across structural, thermal, mechanical, and multiphysics domains.
A representative task may require translating physical requirements into a computational model, generating the required geometry or mesh, applying materials and boundary conditions, running an engineering simulation, and determining whether the resulting artifact and analysis satisfy the applicable physical and design constraints. This role requires strong mechanical-engineering judgment and experience using engineering tools through code, scripts, configuration files, or a command-line interface.
Experience limited exclusively to graphical interfaces will not be sufficient. What You’ll Work On Solve and validate mechanical-engineering problems involving design, analysis, simulation, testing, or R&D. Translate physical systems and engineering requirements into analytical or computational models. Create or modify geometry, meshes, materials, loads, contacts, constraints, and solver inputs. Perform structural, thermal, dynamic, fatigue, buckling, vibration, or related analyses.
Use Python to automate model preparation, simulation, parameter sweeps, optimization, postprocessing, and verification. Analyze stress, strain, displacement, temperature, heat flow, deformation, frequency response, safety factors, and other relevant outputs. Compare simulation results with hand calculations, experimental data, reference cases, or expected physical behavior. Diagnose invalid geometry, mesh problems, convergence failures, incorrect boundary conditions, and unrealistic outputs.
Review AI-generated engineering solutions and identify reasoning errors, incorrect assumptions, and violated physical constraints. Develop clear, reproducible reference solutions and objective validation checks. Iteratively improve designs for performance, mass, strength, stiffness, thermal behavior, reliability, or manufacturability. Required Qualifications An MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline; or A BS in Mechanical Engineering plus at least 1–2 years of relevant professional experience in mechanical design, analysis, simulation, testing, or R&D.
