LEGAL ASSISTANT (OFFICE AUTOMATION)
About this role
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Clerical and Administrative Support Positions. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower broadband NK-01, equivalent to the next to lower grade GS-04 or equivalent in the Federal Service.
Examples of specialized experience includes delivering administrative support and legal assistant support to legal office locations, staff attorneys, to include assists LOM with personnel accountability; inputs data into command and service systems to process leave, travel, and personnel actions. Additionally, must have skill in reviewing current legislation, regulations, directives, and decisions of various courts and administrative bodies, bringing to the attention of attorneys changes pertinent to their assigned fields.
OR EDUCATION: Successfully completed two years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial, or technical school, junior college, college, or university. NOTE: You must submit a copy of transcripts. OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.
NOTE: You must submit a copy of transcripts.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of rules, procedures, policies, and programs of the Office of the Staff Judge Advocate to perform the procedural and administrative work of the organization. Knowledge of office functions to screen telephone calls and visitors, prepare and review correspondence, and perform other administrative work as required.
Knowledge of various office automation software programs, tools, and techniques to support office-operations and produce a variety of documents such as letters, reports, spreadsheets, databases, and graphs. Skill in typing; a qualified typist is required. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to advise commanders and supervisors of appropriate legal actions. Ability to interpret and apply regulatory and procedural requirements to process unusually difficult and complicated transactions; ability to utilize a military legal library and computer resources to perform appropriate research.
