Experian Software Solutions (ESS) is the global product and engineering function delivering world-class software solutions. ESS is structured around core business areas: Analytics, Decisioning, Identity & Fraud (ID&F), and Solutions. ESS is comprised of ~1,100 people across 14 countries, almost 80% of whom are engineers. We looking for an experienced Head of Software Engineering to provide strategic engineering leadership across the ID&F global organisation, combining people leadership, technology modernisation, and delivery accountability.
You will be a senior partner to business and technology stakeholders, shaping how engineering teams operate, innovate, and deliver at scale. You will be required to travel to our London office once a week to meet senior stakeholders. As the Head of Software Engineering, you will Build and lead high-performing, globally distributed engineering teams, setting clear direction, priorities, accountability, and fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Drive delivery excellence by translating strategic objectives into executable plans, measurable outcomes, and sustainable operating rhythms that ensure consistent, high-quality delivery. Champion an AI-native engineering culture by embedding AI, automation, and data-driven decision-making into software development, delivery practices, and operational processes. Provide technical leadership with expertise in Java Full Stack, .NET, AWS, EKS, Claude, Cursor, and modern engineering and deployment practices to guide solution design and technical strategy.
Lead technology modernisation initiatives, simplifying legacy environments and accelerating the adoption of new platforms, tools, architectures, and ways of working. Act as a trusted advisor and solution provider for complex business and technology challenges, applying structured thinking, sound judgment, and pragmatic decision-making. Partner closely with product, engineering, operations, and business stakeholders to align priorities, remove blockers, manage dependencies, and deliver scalable solutions.
Ensure all engineering decisions and execution activities align with governance, security, compliance, enterprise risk standards, and organisational objectives. Own workforce planning and talent strategy, including hiring, succession planning, capability development, diversity initiatives, and coaching people managers to build strong leadership pipelines. Manage budgets, vendor relationships, and resourcing strategies while representing engineering in senior leadership forums, providing visibility into risks, dependencies, performance, and strategic progress.
