About this role
You must meet both the Basic Requirement and the Specialized Experience to qualify for this series as described below. See the Education section for the Basic Requirement. BASIC REQUIREMENT: Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. OR Combination of education and experience: education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
GS-14 Specialized Experience Statement: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-13 in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as meeting 3 of 4 of the following: Directing the program planning and implementation for a major scientific research segment in fundamental geosciences or related physical science fields.
Developing operating plans, work schedules, and project budgets for assigned scientific research initiatives. Evaluating technical research proposals or participating in peer-review processes to recommend project funding. Presenting scientific findings or program updates at technical conferences, workshops, or inter-organizational meetings to foster research collaboration. GS-15 Specialized Experience Statement: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-14 in the Federal service.
Specialized experience for this position is defined as meeting 3 of 4 of the following: Formulating long-range scientific program goals and research roadmaps in fundamental geosciences or related physical science fields. Evaluating fundamental geosciences research to provide authoritative scientific recommendations to executive decision-makers. Monitoring and guiding the execution of fundamental science projects to evaluate technical progress against established performance markers and schedules.
