Forward Deployed Engineer
About this role
ABOUT THE ROLE This is a forward deployed engineering role at a Y Combinator-backed AI startup automating inside sales workflows for distributors and manufacturers. You will own the full technical lifecycle of customer deployments, from sales handoff to go-live, serving as the critical bridge between the product and its real-world impact in enterprise environments. WHAT YOU'LL DO - Own end-to-end technical implementation of the platform for each customer, from initial handoff through live deployment.
- Configure and fine-tune AI models for customer-specific use cases, including prompt engineering and model behavior adjustments. - Structure customer data and build system integrations with ERP platforms such as SAP and various REST/GraphQL APIs. - Develop prototypes to demonstrate new features or address emerging customer problems, then evolve them into scalable solutions. - Engage daily with both technical teams and senior business stakeholders to translate operational pain points into engineering decisions.
- Surface product gaps and recurring patterns to the core engineering team, acting as the internal voice of the customer. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR - C2 or native-level German fluency, required. - Directly relevant Forward Deployed Engineering experience, not general engineering experience alone. - Strong full-stack engineering ability across Python, React, TypeScript, SQL, and data pipelines. - Experience integrating enterprise systems including ERP platforms, REST/GraphQL APIs, webhooks, or B2B SaaS implementations.
- Practical experience with LLMs, AI agents, and prompt engineering, with the ability to adapt model behavior to specific business domains. - Proven ability to work with messy, inconsistent real-world data and establish reliable structures quickly. - Customer-facing technical experience, comfortable communicating with both end users and senior stakeholders. - High agency and ownership mindset, proactively identifying and solving problems without waiting for explicit direction.
- Comfort with ambiguity, legacy systems, and a fast-paced, high-intensity on-site environment. COMPENSATION & BENEFITS Salary range: 80,000 to 130,000 EUR annually. Visa sponsorship is not available for this role. LOCATION On-site in Munich, Bavaria, Germany. This role requires full in-person presence.
