Experimentalist – Catalyst Development (m/w/d)
About this role
For one of our clients in the energy and chemicals sector, we are looking for an Experimentalist to support the development of innovative catalysts for refining and chemical applications. Working closely with scientists, researchers and technical specialists, you will support the development of new catalyst formulations and preparation methods, helping translate laboratory innovations into scalable manufacturing processes.
This is a hands-on laboratory role where your expertise in chemical synthesis, materials preparation and experimental development will contribute directly to industrial innovation. Responsibilities Perform hands-on laboratory experiments involving the synthesis and preparation of catalyst samples. Develop, optimise and refine catalyst formulations and preparation recipes. Prepare prototype catalyst samples for refining and chemical applications.
Investigate and improve catalyst preparation methods to ensure reproducibility, quality and consistency. Translate laboratory-developed recipes into scalable preparation processes suitable for commercial manufacturing. Collaborate with scientists, programme leaders, reactor-testing specialists and analytical teams. Work closely with manufacturing and production support teams to support the scale-up of catalyst preparation processes.
Ensure timely delivery of catalyst samples to support ongoing research and development programmes. Document experimental procedures, results and preparation methods accurately. Contribute practical catalyst preparation knowledge and expertise to multidisciplinary development projects. HBO degree in Applied Chemistry, Chemical Technology, Materials Science, Chemistry or a related technical discipline. Practical experience in a laboratory environment involving chemical synthesis, materials preparation or experimental development.
Understanding of laboratory procedures, chemical formulations and experimental techniques. Experience working with solid materials, inorganic compounds, powders or catalysts is highly desirable. Ability to develop, test and optimise preparation methods and experimental recipes. Understanding of process development and laboratory-to-industrial scale-up is an advantage. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Accurate, structured and hands-on approach to laboratory work.
