Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Basic Requirements for Engineering Technician, 0802 Series: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Operating and/or maintaining various equipment such as forklifts, backhoes, and ATVs; 2) Assisting in the diagnosis of various issues in various engines; and 3) Conducting marine operations with the assistance of various oceanographic instruments or systems.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service DE-03 (GS-10). OR Education: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree (a) with major study in an appropriate field of engineering, construction, or industrial technology; OR (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as engineering, engineering or industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science, or mathematics.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12.

Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. This position is covered by the Science and Technology Laboratory Personnel Management Demonstration Project at the DE-0802-04 (equivalent to GS-11/12). Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (DE-03, GS 10).

This announcement MAY be used to fill like vacancies six months from the closing date. All qualification requirements, including time after competitive appointment, must be met within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement In accordance with the Federal Register Vol. 63, No. 57, dates March 25, 1998, an employee of the Laboratory Demonstration project must have a current average performance score of 2.5 or above in order to be selected for promotion.
