About this role

This is an interdisciplinary position and may be filled by a General Engineer (0801-series), a Materials Engineer (0806-series), or a Mechanical Engineer (0830-series) depending upon the qualifications of the candidate. Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the ND-4 pay band (GS-12 and GS-13 equivalency) in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: As a professional engineer managing and executing multi-deliverable projects involving welding or allied processes metallurgy and metallic materials development; utilizing concepts, practices, and theories of materials science and engineering, welding or allied processes metallurgy, and new metallic materials development; leading and mentoring engineers and technicians in the welding or allied processes technology areas; and planning and overseeing laboratory testing of metals, metallic coatings, or weldments.

Examples of qualifying experience may include (1) experience as a subject matter expert in the field of materials science and engineering, welding and allied processes metallurgy, and new metallic materials development; (2) leading and mentoring a team of engineers, scientists, and technicians in the execution welding and allied processes metallurgy program tasks related to the US Navy; (3) working in, leading, and recruiting interdisciplinary teams toward established goals; (4) providing technical and programmatic oversight of large and complicated projects involving ferrous or non-ferrous welding metallurgy, weldability, and new metallic material development.
