About this role

This is an interdisciplinary position and may be filled by a General Engineer (0801-series), a Materials Engineer (0806-series), or a Mechanical Engineer (0830-series) depending upon the qualifications of the candidate. Applicants in positions with occupational series other than those listed (0801, 0806 and 0830) may apply; however, you must apply directly to the series listed in this vacancy that is most applicable to your qualifications.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the ND-4 pay band (GS-12 and GS-13 equivalency) in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: As a professional engineer managing and executing multi-deliverable projects involving welding or allied processes metallurgy and metallic materials development; utilizing concepts, practices, and theories of materials science and engineering, welding or allied processes metallurgy, and new metallic materials development; leading and mentoring engineers and technicians in the welding or allied processes technology areas; and planning and overseeing laboratory testing of metals, metallic coatings, or weldments.

Examples of qualifying experience may include (1) experience as a subject matter expert in the field of materials science and engineering, welding and allied processes metallurgy, and new metallic materials development; (2) leading and mentoring a team of engineers, scientists, and technicians in the execution welding and allied processes metallurgy program tasks related to the US Navy; (3) working in, leading, and recruiting interdisciplinary teams toward established goals; (4) providing technical and programmatic oversight of large and complicated projects involving ferrous or non-ferrous welding metallurgy, weldability, and new metallic material development.
