About this role

Conditions of Employment Continued: Incumbent is required to perform critical services regardless of weather conditions or base closure and report to the duty station at the regularly scheduled work time. May be required to stay over until an emergency has been terminated or until properly relieved by a qualified dispatcher. Works in close harmony with supervisors, co-workers and others during day-to-day routines and during emergencies.

Is required to maintain good working relationships with on and off-base agencies, always maintaining a consistently courteous attitude. Keeps calm and cool during emergency situations. This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing. Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety.

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Clerical and Administrative Support Positions, Series 2151. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-05, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes advanced knowledge of the emergency dispatch system in order to receive an emergency (i.e., accident-crash, fire, medical, threat, etc.) notification discern critical aspects (e.g., life threatening, hazardous, etc.) and respond with appropriate, instructions and dispatch of emergency services personnel and equipment.

Sound knowledge of installation emergency call center and installation emergency services (i.e., fire, security forces, EOD and ambulance functions) in order to develop checklists and provide training to lower graded Emergency Dispatchers. Sound knowledge of the of the installation's mission, organizations, senior officials, key emergency services functions, communications networks & personnel in order to expeditiously relay or convey concise and accurate information or instructions, to on-scene responders, victims, senior management officials, and supporting emergency functions.

Knowledge, skill, and ability in stressed communications methods in order correctly assess a 911 callers' situation and disposition and provide clearly understood lifesaving or hazard abate information or instructions. Knowledge of various office automation software processing procedures and function keys and the similarities and differences among software types to produce a wide range of documents, such as graphics or tables within text, to edit and reformat electronic drafts, and to update and revise existing databases or spreadsheets.

Knowledge of standard office equipment, such as electric/electronic typewriters, copiers, fax machines, and office automation systems to perform a substantial range of emergency communications support. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-05 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-06 level.

TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of communications operations.

Knowledge of basic computer operations to include word processing, retrieval and input of data. Knowledge of location and availability of emergency apparatus, the kind of apparatus and equipment needed for the emergency at hand. Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing using a calm and stable demeanor while dealing with emergency situations. Ability to work independently without immediate supervision.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
