This senior level position will manage a team of engineers and technicians responsible for designing and developing opto-mechanical related products such as mounts for optical elements, mounting platforms and bases, and other opto-mechanical devices used in photonics base experiments.

Team responsibilities include all related engineering design documentation and date as well as metrology and characterization requirements. From time to time, it may be required to undertake duties at other Thorlabs locations. Essential Job Functions include the following, but are not limited to: Supervise the group responsible for design, specification, characterization, and web release optomechanical devices. Monitor and maintain product development schedules and tasks.

Ensure the adherence to Product Development and engineering procedures. Identify, document and rank ideas for new development efforts Build and maintain a database of new product ideas and investigate cutting edge technologies and resulting product possibilities. Implement and develop ways to streamline our product development process Manage direct reports, including workloads and yearly performance reviews. Document project work and, at times, lead projects and technical discussions Create and develop effective training presentations where necessary.

Complies with safety regulations and maintains clean and orderly work areas In addition to the essential functions and duties listed above, all positions are also responsible for: Meeting company standards pertaining to quantity and quality of work performed on an ongoing basis, performing all work related tasks in a manner that is in compliance with all Company policies and procedures. Adhering to Company policies, procedures, and directives regarding standards of workplace behavior in completing job duties and assignments.

Physical Activities: Work may be active, could stand or sit for long durations and/or perform repetitious work at times. The employee may lift or move objects up to 20 pounds. Employees must grasp, manipulate, or assemble parts and components that are often very small. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, however, may be noisy at times.

Must be able to wear appropriate clothing and personal protective equipment such as but not limited to masks, glasses, gloves, and specialty garments. The required PPE and training allow for the safe handling and processing of chemicals like adhesives, lubricants and solvents, and safe operation of job-related equipment and tools. Requirements Experience: Minimum 5 years’ experience in designing opto-mechanical devices Education: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, optical, or related discipline, or equivalent hands-on experience Specialized Knowledge and Skills: Working knowledge on SolidWorks or similar 3D modeling software.

Strong proficiency in MS office and communication tools. Excellent statistical data analysis and problem-solving abilities. Effectively reports progress and problems through written or oral reports. Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment Strong innovation skill. Flexibility/adaptability in a fast-paced & dynamic environment.
