LOCATION AND FLEXIBILITY This is a hybrid role where you'll work from our Porto Alegre office three days per week or twelve days per month.

This setup promotes in-person innovation, collaboration, and connection with both local and visiting team members from other offices. Our flexible approach ensures that you can work from different locations while still enjoying the benefits of office culture. The role may require travel based on project needs. THE OPPORTUNITY As a Design Director, you'll lead a team of approximately 8 designers within our design practice of approximately 90 designers.

This is a unique opportunity to lead and directly influence creative direction without becoming removed from the design work itself. You'll work on projects involving emerging technology, including AI and agentic pipelines, and multimodal experience design. You'll design and build with AI tools as part of your regular work, and you'll be responsible for leading the adoption of those practices across your team. RESPONSIBILITIES - Set project direction from initial concept through prototyping, including hands-on development of coded prototypes using AI tools. - Provide meaningful guidance on everything from client communication to detailed design execution - Help designers push out of their comfort zone to create the best work of their careers - Connect design decisions to the client's business outcomes, and identify opportunities to expand the work beyond the current scope - Collaborate and build relationships with cross-disciplinary teams such as product, engineering, content, and project management to orchestrate a smooth project experience for our clients and teams - Define conceptual and visual direction for well-known brands - Validate your design decisions through user feedback, quantitative insights, and evolving best practices - Build relationships with clients and navigate your team through challenges that may interfere with executing the best product possible - Present design work to clients throughout all phases of the process, including executive reviews and new business pitches - Be accountable for the quality of all client-facing work produced by your team - Identify account risks early and propose plans to address them - Contribute to the development of the design practice through critiques, frameworks, and training - 80% of your time will be spent working with your fellow designers on mission-critical projects with Fortune 500 clients - 20% of your time will be spent managing your team, including regular 1:1s, setting expectations, giving feedback, and managing performance QUALIFICATIONS - 10+ years in the design industry - You've shipped products that impact thousands of users or more, and most recently you've been leading design teams - A portfolio is required.

It must demonstrate work of the highest quality: taste, high standards of craft, attention to detail, and the outcomes your work achieved for users and the business. Projects you've built yourself, including with AI tools, can be included - Solid understanding of the product development process, from problem definition to working software - You have strong opinions about visual and user experience design while remaining flexible to new or differing perspectives - Hands-on experience building with AI tools such as Claude Code and Figma Make, including working prototypes or code contributed to a product - Working knowledge of Git, including branches and pull requests - Understanding of front-end architecture, including components, state, and design tokens - This role combines people management with hands-on design and build work.

Both are required - Experience connecting design decisions to business outcomes, and explaining trade-offs and commercial impact to senior client stakeholders - Experience presenting complex ideas and design recommendations to senior client stakeholders and team members, including executive reviews and new business pitches - Experience managing the performance of designers, including giving direct feedback and addressing underperformance - You love working with clients, and they love working with you.

You're empathetic to their needs and can bring solutions if problems arise - Fluent professional English. CEFR C2 preferred - Experience working with international clients is a plus WHY TELUS DIGITAL?
