About this role

Group Ventures is Valsoft's incubator. We find opportunities in the market and build companies to address them. The finance team inside Group Ventures keeps the books for four of those companies so far: ValPay, Tenerum, Sadie Technology, and Plug & Pay. We're looking for a financial analyst to run their day-to-day accounting cycle: vendors, payments, banking operations, recurring schedules, and close support. You'll work directly with the Finance Controller, who keeps responsibility for accounting judgement, financial statements, and technical positions.

You'll be the one running the accounting engine each day. The work spans several entities and seven currencies (CAD, USD, EUR, GBP, AUD, NZD, CHF) on NetSuite OneWorld. Volume is high and close deadlines are tight. AI should be part of how you work. Use it to draft, analyse, and automate the repetitive parts of the cycle. You're responsible for the accuracy of whatever gets posted. What we value Accuracy, and the habit of checking your own work before anyone else has to.

Finishing what you own without being chased. Understanding how each entity earns and spends money. Discretion with confidential financial information. Curiosity, and a willingness to fix a process that keeps producing the same error. The honesty to say when something is wrong, including your own work. What you'll do Keep payables accurate and vendors paid on time Monitor the AP shared mailboxes (ValPay, Tenerum, Sadie) and run the weekly invoice-entry batch: triage, rename and file PDFs, code invoices by entity, division and GL account, prepare the NetSuite bill import file, and attach supporting documents.

Process recurring invoices per established coding rules. Obtain missing spend approvals from budget owners, reconcile vendor statements, investigate differences, and clear past-due invoices. Set up and maintain vendor records in NetSuite, including banking details, tax forms and payment terms, checking every banking change before it goes in. Prepare the weekly payment run: payment proposal, draft-only payment entry in the banking portal, remittance advices, and approval follow-up.

Keep cash and bank records reconciled Download bank statements and transactions for all entities, code and post entries in NetSuite, and prepare the monthly bank reconciliations with reconciling items listed for review. Own the credit card cycle: collect receipts, chase cardholders, produce the monthly expense file, and prepare the reconciliation and journal-entry upload file. Get customers invoiced and cash applied Issue and send customer invoices, and follow up on missing or corrected ones.

Apply cash receipts, maintain the AR aging, and handle first-level collection follow-up, flagging past-due accounts and disputes to the Controller for escalation. Support the month-end close Maintain recurring schedules (prepaids, accruals, fixed assets and depreciation, deferred revenue) and prepare balance sheet reconciliations for lower-complexity accounts, documenting open items. Prepare standard and recurring journal entries with full supporting documentation for Controller review and approval, then upload the approved files to NetSuite and verify posting accuracy.

Run intercompany confirmations: prepare balance confirmations, circulate them to group entities, follow up, and assemble settlement support. Keep records audit-ready and support the Controller File and archive supporting documentation per the established folder structure, pull samples and documents requested by external auditors, and keep audit folders current. Handle finance requests in Jira, gathering documentation, keeping tickets updated and closing them once resolved.

Write and maintain the procedures for the tasks you own. Work with the Controller on ad hoc requests and special projects: onboarding new entities or acquisitions, opening and closing bank accounts, system implementations, and data gathering for analyses and reporting. Prepare the documents, data extracts and working files for files the Controller leads, and pick up other accounting-cycle work as team needs and period priorities change.

What you'll bring A DEC in accounting and management techniques, an AEC in accounting, or equivalent training. Two to four years of full-cycle accounting experience. Intermediate to advanced Excel. You're comfortable with lookups, pivot tables, and high volumes of data. ERP experience. NetSuite is strongly preferred; Sage, Dynamics, or QuickBooks are accepted. Accuracy and attention to detail, with the discipline to meet tight close deadlines.

Self-direction and organisation. You can carry a high volume of recurring tasks with minimal supervision. Follow-through. You chase the missing approval, receipt, or confirmation until it arrives. Discretion and judgement with confidential financial information. Clear writing. You can explain a reconciling item or a vendor discrepancy in a few lines. You use AI tools in your work and check the results before they reach the ledger.

Useful experience Multi-entity or multi-currency accounting. Power Query. Payments, fintech, or software. Using a corporate banking portal. Jira. Writing procedures for a finance team that is still being built. Who will enjoy this role You notice when a vendor statement doesn't match, a bank line has no home, or an intercompany balance is off by the same amount two months running. You want to know why, and you fix the cause.

In one week you might clear an invoice batch across three entities, chase a cardholder for receipts, reconcile an AUD bank account, and pull audit samples. Most of the work recurs, and the value is in getting it right every time. The hard parts are specific. Volume is high and the close date doesn't move. Across seven currencies and several entities, small mistakes compound. You prepare and the Controller decides: accounting judgement and final approvals sit with someone else.

Processes are being built as the team grows, so sometimes you'll do a task that has no procedure yet, then write one. Why this role matters Group Ventures builds companies for Valsoft, and its growth has been recognized on Deloitte's Technology Fast 50. ValPay operates as a payment facilitator, so other businesses can accept payments without building their own merchant infrastructure. Sadie builds AI voice technology for restaurants and hospitality, with customers in Australia, Europe, the United States, and Canada.

Each new company the group builds becomes another entity in the finance team's books, with its own bank accounts, vendors, and close. The team is small and still being built out. This hire takes on the day-to-day accounting cycle so the Controller can focus on accounting judgement, financial statements, and technical positions. You'll see how a multi-entity, multi-currency technology group runs from the inside, and as the team scales there is room to take on more analytical work.
