About this role
In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-2500 Wire Communications Equipment Installation And Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.
Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is ability to do the work of a WG-2504 COMMUNICATIONS CABLE SPLICER without more than normal supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of electronic principles involved in the measurement of such elements as ohms, voltage, and decibels.
Ability to troubleshoot copper core, fiber optic, and local area network cable systems to localize defects, and to follow voltage, current, and resistance paths. 2. Skill in isolating and checking intermediate components for correct value, and performing precise measurement of such parameters as ohms, decibels, voltages, and distances at various test points. 3. Knowledge of the make-up, operation, and use of a variety of portable or self contained test equipment used to measure ohms, decibels, voltages, and distances.
Skill in using and maintaining copper core and fiber optic splicing tools such as the 890 modular splicing head, MA6 splicing kit, VS-3 hand tool, fiber optic fusion splice machine. 4. Ability to install Preformed Line Products (PLP) stainless steel splice cases in accordance to manufacturers specifications on such cables. 5. Ability to use published technical directives and equipment specifications that outline specific alignment and calibration procedures.
