Position Title: Commissioning Intern Position Location: Remote - work from anywhere in the United States. Must be located near a major airport. Education / Experience Requirements: Must be actively pursuing a Bachelors / Masters Engineering Degree or similar Travel Requirements: Up to 75% domestic travel; relocation may be considered for long-term project needs. Must have a valid driver’s license. JOB SUMMARY The Commissioning Intern is focused on gaining foundational knowledge and hands-on experience in commissioning.
This role provides technical support in inspection, validation, and testing of electrical and mechanical equipment. The Commissioning Intern I will primarily assist senior team members, following structured test scripts, setting up test equipment, and ensuring compliance with safety and reporting standards. The Commissioning Intern will rely on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.
They will work under immediate supervision. This person will communicate and operate in line with organizational goals and values, as well as departmental objectives. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Assist with On-Site Inspection, Testing & Validation (50%) Observe and participate in factory witness testing Observe startup activities Learn to use technical equipment to perform testing Observe and learn about functional testing of equipment and electrical, mechanical and controls systems Troubleshoot system components Assist in the Development of Testing Plans & Procedures(20%) Assist in the development of commissioning plans Assist with preparation of pre-functional checklists Assist with preparation of functional performance test scripts Assist in the Review of Construction Related Design Documents, Drawings and Specifications (15%) Learn to review shop drawings and submittals Learn to review sequence of operations Assist in commissioning focused design reviews Reporting (15%) Assist in the preparation of project progress reports for internal and external stakeholders Assist in preparation and contributes to final commissioning report Manage personal hours using company tools Completion of Assigned Tasks and Deliverables on Time and on Budget Performs Other Related Duties as Assigned POSITION REQUIREMENTS (BEGINNER LEVEL FOR ALL OF THE FOLLOWING UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED) Knowledge of electrical, mechanical and controls system principles Skilled at using MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams), along with exceptional organizational skills for file management Skilled in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail Ability to leverage AI and emerging technologies to streamline workflows, optimize operational processes, and contribute to company-wide innovation Ability to work successfully in a remote environment through effective communication and organizational skills, self-motivation, proactiveness and resourcefulness in a distraction free workspace Ability to follow company and site safety requirements Ability to analyze and prepare documents, reports and correspondence Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form (technical and non-technical information) Ability to work successfully as a member of a team and independently with supervision Ability to work under pressure and meet close deadlines Ability to achieve certification for NFPA70E and / or OSHA training as / if required Organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously PHYSICAL DEMANDS The following physical demands must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
