UK remote
Coach Builder & Smart Repair Technician
About this role
Ember is the UK's first all-electric coach company. We launched in October 2020 and are now running on more than twenty routes – including Dundee to Glasgow, Aberdeen to Edinburgh and Inverness to Fort William – with several further routes launching later in 2026. We are at advanced stages in developing new charging hubs in Kirkcaldy and Glasgow, with many more sites in the pipeline. As we accelerate our network footprint across Scotland, we are launching a new maintenance and engineering facility in Dundee.
We’re looking for a skilled, reliable and motivated Coach Builder and SMART Repair Technician to join our electric bus maintenance team. This is a hands-on, varied role suited to someone with a practical background who is comfortable working in a busy workshop environment. You won't be expected to be a fully qualified mechanic, but you'll work closely alongside our team of technicians and play a vital part in keeping our zero-emission fleet on the road.
The ideal candidate will be experienced, energetic and confident with the passion to stay on top of the latest developments in the electric vehicle market. This will be a Dundee-based role - but you’ll also be working closely with the teams in Aberdeen, Livingston and Inverness. We’ll make sure that you’re set up for success, with all necessary training, access to the right vehicle and all of the relevant tools and equipment.
This position sits in the middle of bus cosmetic preservation and heavy vehicle structural layout. You will take the lead on end-to-end ownership of bodywork projects—diagnosing alignments, completing structural adjustments, and carrying out surface prep for the panel wrapping team. We need someone who can assess a vehicle and quickly understand exactly how panels and components need to be adjusted or pulled to sit correctly.
This is a truly unique challenge - our coaches are used more intensively than any other electric vehicles in the world so not every problem will have a solution that can be found in a manual. Instead, your team will need to work closely with the manufacturer, go deep into understanding root causes and think creatively about how we could be avoiding the problem altogether in the future. We’re looking for a problem-solver who will help to identify and resolve issues quickly, and will relish the challenge of joining a new team that will make our state of the art fleet the best-maintained in the country with the lowest downtime.
