BIM Coordinator / VDC Coordinator

Position Title : BIM Coordinator Position Location : Remote - work from anywhere in the United States. Must be located near a major airport. Travel Requirements: Up to 5% domestic travel. Must have a valid driver’s license and ability to rent vehicles. Salary DLB recognizes salary ranges from job boards do not necessarily reflect our pay ranges. Job Summary The BIM / VDC Coordinator will support the MEP Engineers and project teams by managing the model coordination process on both small and large-scale mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection projects, including mission critical data center environments. This person will be responsible for the day-to-day mechanics of clash detection and coordination, including exporting content from discipline models, building and maintaining coordination models, fixing clashes in Revit, running clash tests and producing clash reports.
Primary duties include creating, updating and maintaining federated coordination models in Navisworks and / or the Autodesk Forma Model Coordination module, leading clash coordination meetings, presenting clash reports to project teams and working alongside engineers in Revit to drive open issues to resolution. Model coordinates, positioning and link setup are managed by the Project BIM Manager; the BIM / VDC Coordinator communicates and verifies these items with the Project BIM Manager prior to each coordination cycle.
The BIM / VDC Coordinator will receive general instructions on routine coordination cycles, detailed instructions on new projects or assignments. May work independently or under immediate supervision. May serve as coordination lead on routine projects of limited scope. The BIM / VDC Coordinator will communicate and operate in line with organizational goals and values, as well as departmental objectives. Essential Functions Model Coordination and Clash Management (50%) Export and prepare content from discipline models (Revit and other trade formats) for use in coordination Communicate and verify model coordinates, positioning and link setup with the Project BIM Manager prior to each coordination cycle Create, update and maintain federated coordination models in Navisworks and / or the Autodesk Forma Model Coordination module Set up and run clash detection tests (hard clash, clearance and soft clash rule sets) at established coordination milestones Generate, organize and distribute clash detection reports to project teams and stakeholders Create, name and manage saved viewpoints and markups in both 2D and 3D for tracking and communicating issues Assign, track and update coordination issues through resolution, keeping issue logs current and accurate Verify resolved clashes against updated model exports to confirm closure before sign-off Maintain high level of competency of software through continued use and training Attend conferences, seminars and workshops for BIM / VDC Coordination Meetings / Issue Resolution (30%) Schedule, prepare for and lead (or co-lead) recurring clash coordination meetings with trade partners, designers and project stakeholders Present clash reports and federated model views clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences Facilitate real-time discussion of clashes and constructability concerns during coordination sessions Work directly with discipline engineers to evaluate flagged clashes, determine root cause and identify practical resolution paths Fix coordination issues directly in Revit Follow up between meetings to confirm models have been updated per agreed resolutions Communicate model discrepancies (coordinates, linking, missing content) to the Project BIM Manager and verify corrections in the next model export Escalate unresolved or high impact clashes to the Project Manager and project leadership as needed Manage and distribute coordinated digital documents to the project team Model and Data Support (15%) Maintain accurate, up to date coordination models throughout each project phase Verify incoming model exports for completeness and communicate discrepancies to the Project BIM Manager Export data, images and reports from Navisworks / Model Coordination for use in project documentation and stakeholder updates Maintain coordination logs, revision tracking and version control across model exports Work as part of the engineering team and interact closely with the project management team Reporting (5%) Prepare coordination status reports and clash trend summaries for internal and external stakeholders Track and report on coordination milestones, open issue counts and resolution rates Manage personal hours using company tools Performs Other Related Duties as Assigned Position Requirements (Intermediate level for all the following) Ability to work successfully in a remote environment thru effective communication and organizational skills, self-motivation, proactiveness and resourcefulness in a distraction free workspace Working knowledge of Navisworks (clash detection, viewpoints, saved searches, selection and clash sets) Working knowledge of the Autodesk Forma Model Coordination module (coordination spaces, clash groups, issue assignment) Working knowledge of Revit, including modeling of MEP, exporting and publishing models for coordination Ability to read and interpret MEP construction documents and identify constructability issues Skilled at using MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams), along with exceptional organizational skills for file management Skilled at organizing and managing issue logs, model versions, saved viewpoints and meeting follow-ups Skilled at active listening, giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate and not interrupting at inappropriate times Skilled in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail Ability to present model views and clash findings confidently to technical and non-technical stakeholders Ability to manage coordination cycles across multiple projects at the same time Ability to work with engineers and design teams to evaluate clashes, determine root cause and resolve model conflicts Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form (technical and non-technical information) Ability to work successfully as a member of a team Ability to work under pressure and meet close deadlines Ability to follow company and site safety requirements Ability to analyze and prepare documents, reports and correspondence Ability to work in interdepartmental groups in multi-role efforts Ability to communicate and verify model setup items with the Project BIM Manager and follow established project workflows Ability to identify and analyze complex problems,
