About this role

About the Role This is a core backend engineering role at a fintech company building global trust and compliance infrastructure. You will design scalable systems and APIs that sit at the heart of a high-trust product, shaping both the technical architecture and the engineering culture as the team grows. What You'll Do Design and build backend systems that are clean, testable, and efficient. Architect scalable APIs and infrastructure capable of handling high-trust, high-volume requirements.

Bring strong opinions on testing, quality, and long-term maintainability to every project. Tackle complex product challenges by thinking deeply about user needs and system behavior. Shape engineering practices and technical culture through collaboration and hands-on leadership. What We're Looking For 5 to 7+ years of backend engineering experience building production-grade systems, APIs, or distributed services; the team skews senior and most hires land at 7+ years.

Proficiency in at least one backend language such as Node.js/TypeScript, Python, Go, or Java; Node.js and TypeScript experience is a strong plus. Experience designing and architecting scalable backend infrastructure for high-trust or regulated environments, such as fintech, payments, or identity. Production experience with relational databases (Postgres or MySQL). Experience with message queues or event-driven architectures (RabbitMQ, Kafka, or similar); familiarity with Event Sourcing patterns is a bonus.

Experience deploying and managing applications in containerized or cloud environments (Kubernetes, AWS, or similar). Strong systems thinking: ability to reason about long-term architectural implications, not just individual features. Clear communicator who enjoys breaking down complexity and collaborating closely with teammates. Comfortable working in ambiguity and early-stage environments where practices are actively shaped.

Must be based in a European timezone; this is a firm requirement. Compensation & Benefits Base salary range: EUR 116,000 to 146,000 annually, applied consistently at each level with no individual salary negotiation. Visa sponsorship is not available. Location Fully remote, open to candidates in European timezones. The team gathers in person periodically throughout the year. Originally posted on Himalayas
