AIR OPERATIONS SPECIALIST
About this role
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions Transportation Operations Series 2150. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-09, or equivalent in other pay systems.
Examples of specialized experience includes experience in maintaining, retailing, purchasing, or procurement of automotive, rail, air, bus, or other transportation equipment or services, or in the operation of a commercial transportation facility or terminal. This experience must have demonstrated knowledge of fleet operations; familiarity with Federal, State, and municipal regulations governing the use of transportation vehicles; and the maintenance of inventories and cost computations.
Thorough knowledge of the functions, processes, and principles of management as they apply to aircraft operations, aircraft scheduling and documentation, and the efficient use of personnel and resources in order to effectively and efficiently allocate Fairchild AFB KC-135 R/T assets to Tanker Airlift Control Center and local training taskings. Knowledge of air refueling and airlift operations. Knowledge of aircraft capabilities and limitations to include: range, fuel requirements, configuration, crew duty day, and crew rest and ground times.Knowledge of all station and country restrictions to allow safe and efficient flow of airlift resources.
OR EDUCATION: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related, education must have major field of study in accounting, business administration, business or commercial law, commerce, economics, engineering, finance, industrial management, statistics, traffic management, transportation, motor mechanics, nautical science, marine affairs, marine engineering, marine transportation, or other fields related to the position.

FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-09 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-11 level.
